FROZEN RIVER

FROZEN RIVER ****

What an extraordinary film. What an extraordinary concept: A woman, keeping a family of three together (without Dad, who is a gambler and has split with the family money) learns of people smuggling from Canada into the North-Eastern United States – and, through sheer necessity, joins that tribe. In doing so she must drive across a (literal) frozen river with human cargo. This film is nothing but suspense, and is a modern classic. Not to be missed. Brilliant on every level.
